Hays County Emergency Information

Hays County Local Health Department today reports 46 new lab-confirmed cases. Epidemiologist Eric Schneider said there are also four (4) new hospitalizations and 79 additional residents now considered recovered.

“While we are making strides toward reducing the number of new cases, Hays County residents are urged to continue practicing social distancing, wearing masks and washing their hands frequently,” he said. “These simple steps can help slow the spread of the virus and protect the most vulnerable in our community.

He added that the report now includes all of the negative test results of Hays County residents who were tested by the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) in Kyle and San Marcos in late June and early July. The positives were already accounted for in the data, but TDEM sent 8,561 negative test results to the health department today.

The County’s total of lab-confirmed cases is 4,091; of those, 2,992 are considered active. The number of individuals considered recovered is 1,077. The number of negative tests is 20,850. Schneider is awaiting results on 54 tests.

Hays County has had 93 total hospitalizations; 24 people are currently hospitalized. Some patients are in hospitals outside Hays County but are included in our numbers if they reside here. Likewise, an individual from another county who is in a local hospital would be accounted for in their county of residence.

A COVID-19 Fact Sheet has been added to the County website: https://hayscountytx.com/covid-19-fact-sheet/. This document provides a glossary of terms and insight into methods and results calculations.

Hays County officials will soon be announcing details of permanent testing sites in the county.
